Abstract
The 2001 Population and Housing Census describes the size, distribution and characteristics of the population and housing of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The Statistical Office conducted enumeration during May–June 2001; the final report identifies 12 June 2001 as Census Day. The questionnaire cover carries a different date, 27 May 2001, which requires reconciliation. The census was intended to support government, private-sector and civil-society planning through demographic, social, economic and housing information. The questionnaire covers household migration, dwelling conditions and services, crime victimization, individual demographic characteristics, disability and health, birthplace and residence, education and training, marital and union status, fertility, economic activity, income, remittances, unpaid housework and census-night location. Economic questions generally concern persons aged 15 years and over and use both preceding-week and preceding-year reference periods. The report records 109,022 persons in visitation records, including non-contacts, refusals and institutional populations, while detailed analysis uses a tabulated population of 106,253. These totals have different coverage and must not be treated as a response-rate calculation. This documentation covers the supplied report and questionnaire; dataset structure and variable-level coding await the original data dictionaries or microdata.
